Beach
House
Seabrook Island, South Carolina
The site
is located on the Atlantic Ocean, with views from either end
of the site, and is elevated ten feet above grade to allow
winter storms to pass underneath.
The upper
level slides over the bottom level in order to maximize the
views and to create a parallel to the 5-mile long beach which
the house overlooks. The detailing of the house follows this
"stretching" with smooth, simple, and direct finishes
throughout. The Beach House appears to float above the land,
gaining its strength from the slippage of the two levels against
one another, and from its spatial simplicity. |
